Honduras Update

Apr 09, 2008

Dear Friends and Family,

Wheaton College Honduras Project

Back in the 80's (that sounds like a long time ago but it seems like yesterday) as a student at Wheaton College, I was involved in a student initiated, organized and led mission trip which eventually led my brother Jonathan and his wife Valerie and myself to Jack Dyer and Honduras. And this year, like most years, Gustavo Lepe and I joined the Wheaton College Honduras Project as a translators, speakers and advisors. For ten days we helped a community of 100 homes install awater system and held community meetings in the afternoons where the good news about Jesus was presented in words, song and drama. Certain individuals of Las Quebradas were very hungry to hear the good news of grace through faith in Jesus because apparently most of the churches in the village preach a gospel based on works. We were very encouraged to see these people drink in the good news, understand it and want to apply it. Also, many of the Wheaton students heard God's call to participate in his mission of love and justice on the earth as I led them through debriefing sessions. Please pray for God's continued work in these lives, especially Oscar and Milton of Las Quebradas, along with the Wheaton students.

Wedding Plans

Allison and I continue to make plans for our wedding on June 21st. Planning is difficult from a distance and with no telephone or internet access in our home. So Allison will be leaving for Minnesota April 23rd to better prepare for our big day. Please pray with us that these preparations would be led, inspired and honoring to the Creator of man and woman. Pray for strength as Allison and I are apart for six weeks. I will stay in Honduras until June 7th when I will join Allison for final wedding preparations. Our plan is to remain in the US after our wedding until January 2009 for a six month sabbatical to gain a solid start to our marriage, to visit many of you and to spend some time in prayer, study and research. We are still praying for someone to fill in while we are gone, especially in caring for the orphans. If any of you feel a tug on your heart to serve in this way please write to us for details.

Youth Group

From April 2nd (tomorrow) through the 9th we will host a group of 25 youth and leaders that Jay and Susie are bringing from Minnesota. These youth come to learn about the world, God's love for the world and his call to go into all the world. We pray that they will learn as they serve by helping us paint the school house in La Muralla, paint a second coat on the orphan's house, paint the El Naranjo kindergarten building and help out at IER. Please pray for strength and logistical organization during this week and for truth to be heard and accepted.

Organizational Changes

I have attached a letter describing some organizational changes that are taking place this month. Please take a little time to read this attached letter carefully. We are confident that this is God's leading and will open new opportunities for God's kingdom to come and will to be done.

Praise the Lord for:
1. Jesus' obedience to death on a cross and the victory won in the resurrection
2. his provision of love for Allison and I to be headed towards marriage
3. the revelations of gospel truth that took place during the Wheaton project

Pray to the Lord for:
1. guidance and inspiration as Allison and I plan our wedding
2. the youth from Minnesota and our neighbors during this month's service project
3. us as we love Gerson (11) and Mario (13), two of the orphans who are entering adolescence and facing its challenges
4. Someone to fill in while Allison and I are six month in the US

Eyes on Jesus, running the race,

Larry
