I arrived in Rwanda safely and am starting to get settled,,,,

Aug 14, 2008

Dear Friends and Family,

Thank you for your prayers and e-mails. All of your e-mails are a blessing to me, they make me feel very loved! Sorry I have not gotten back to you yet. I have had trouble getting online consistently.

I arrived in Rwanda safely and am starting to get settled. Kigali is beautiful, it has hills in every direction. Right now it is the dry season so it is quite dusty. I walk to the office which is about 20 minutes form where I live. The two aftercare staff that I am in charge of are wonderful and have much better English than I expected. I am busy getting to know the program and trying to figure out the best aftercare approach.

Prayer Points:

My emotions:
It has been difficult, especially with Ben (my one year old Godson) passing away the day before I left the US. It has been hard to be away from Fenny and Hans (Ben's parents in India) and my family at this time. Genocide Learning about the genocide is horrific and a lot to process. I went to the genocide memorial and have heard quite a few stories about my co-workers experiences during the genocide. Please pray for healing in Rwanda it is a broken country with a lot of broken and hurting people. I hope and pray that God will use me in bringing healing to this land.
Community: It has been a little lonely this first bit. However, I can see that God is building a community for me here. I had a wonderful time at Bible Study Sunday night. We prayed for Rwanda and I was very blessed and encouraged through it.

Spiritual Warfare:
Please for my protection and that I will be vigilant in warfare. In India the spiritual forced were so evident. Here everything looks good on the surface and it is not as obvious but people still practice witchcraft. Pray that I will be faithful and not distracted from God in anyway. Pray that I have good prayer times and keep my heart open to God.

Hans and Fenny: Thank you to everyone who has expressed sympathy and is praying for Fenny and Hans. Please continue to pray for them. I can not imagine their pain.

Thank you for your prayers, love and support!
Please keep me updated on how you are and let me know how I can pray for you.
Love,
Melissa
